Photo by Matt Roth, .staff photographer at the Patuxent Publishing Co..November 22, 2005..Caught in a flurry of Tribune Company buy-outs, Director of Photography for the Patuxent Publishing Co., Tenney Mason, has left his post of more than 25 years in early June, 2007. ..This photo was taken by staff photographer, Matt Roth in November, 2005, after Mason asked for a few photos he could use for his match.com profile. This shot wasn't used, however. It was too moody, and wasn't representative of his personality. ..He was a loud, little man, a big-time smiler, and he often kept his employees from getting to assignments on time with long, animated stories. "Oh, just one more thing..." is how they started and he used the phrase "Know what I mean!?!" like a comma. ..Mason was a sucker for the graphic. His credo was "a photo's gotta hit you like a pie in the face!"..The man had fire in his belly. He loved arguing for his department. "I told myself a long time ago, if it's not fun, I'm not doing it." But when the Tribune company set out to eliminate one of the two administrative positions at PPC, he could see his position becoming more work than worth. So he took the buy out...The one thing he says he'll miss the most is putting up the photos of the week every Friday. His life's work was making Patuxent an institution for photojournalism, and that weekly trip to the cork boards outside the photo department was a constant reminder of his job well done.
