00DC-COVERAGE

Baltimore, Maryland - November 26, 2021: Anne Madison, 71, from Baltimore, cannot afford hearing aids, which can cost up to $5,000, and Medicaid won’t pay for them. She enrolled in a Johns Hopkins study that evaluates the use of over-the-counter “personal sound amplification products,” which cost $150-$300 by contrast. Ironically, Anne’s stopped working the day of her portrait. She wasn’t too too worried about covering the $300 cost of replacement.

Provisions in the social policy bill represent the biggest step toward universal coverage since the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
