• Anaheim , California - April 11, 2015: Queen Carolyn of Ladonia -- who lives in Chicago -- became involved in the Sweden-based micronation in the late 90's while a Political Science major in college. Her satirical business case proposing why Ladonia should annex Gary Indiana earned her a minister's position. After the previous Queen was ousted, Carolyn Shelby filled the spot. In Ladonia, queens reign for life, and there are no kings. "I've survived a couple coups." The Micronation's government is a Constitutional monarchy run by 100 active ministers and have presidential elections every three years. Ladonians have claimed sovereignty over a coastal Swedish nature reserve. Needless to say Ladonia has a tepid relationship with the Swedish government, but the micronation brings 40,000 people per year to a place that hasn't had a boom in tourism for around 100 years. Ladonia's founder, political artist & sculptor Lars Vilks, created the micronation as a protest to governmental encroachment in Sweden. Ladonia stands for Freedom of speech, lower taxes, the right for its citizens not to be compelled to do things by the government, and freedom to be idle. 100 different countries are represented in its 17,000 citizens -- 6,000 of whom are from the U.S. Queen Carolyn says Ladonia offers people the chance to be a citizen in a system they weren't born in to. "...because nobody was born there. We're all immigrants."
• Mountlake Terrace, Washington - July 13, 2015: Prince Aaron and King Adam I of Überstadt stand for a portrait in their camouflage BDU's on the shore of Lake Ballinger before voyaging to Edmount Island, which is "considered the spiritual homeland of the nation." After rowing as close to the peat island as they can, the Oberstadt brothers will enact "their first official Mark of Überstadt's sovereignty" tossing a small paper laminated flag onto the island.

After the great BBQ fire of 2009, setting foot on the island has been deemed illegal by the local authorities. The fire is considered to be the event that solidified the early Überstadtis.

The Kingdom of Überstadt is led by nineteen-year-old King Adam I, (Adam Oberstadt). The Barony of Rosewood -- the micronation's capitol and the Oberstadt family home -- is nestled in the Seattle suburb of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.
Überstadt also claims territory of nearby Edmount Island on Lake Ballinger -- called The Barony of Ballinger and "considered the spiritual homeland of the nation." Both baronies reside within the Duchy of Edmount which "is situated entirely within the boundaries of the city of Mountlake Terrace, Washington," according to the Überstadt website.
Überstadt was founded by King Adam I and his high school friends March 6, 2010, and was governed by judges as a kritarchy. Before taking the crown, Adam was Überstadt's chief judge. After graduation, many of the Überstadti moved away to college and Überstadt's populace shrank. Activities would shift from the high school to Rosewood, and the governing style morphed to a unitary constitutional monarchy. According to the micronation's website Überstadt is a sovereign state "guided by the principles of direct democracy, socialist economics, and environmentalism."
According to King Adam I, "Diamond was once the head of the Cat Party." When Uberstadt was partisan The Cat Party was the leading conservative faction. Now that Diamond is in retirement he's free to do his favorite things, which are hang around outside and "lick himself." "Now Überstadt is a direct democracy, making parties irrelevant," said King Adam !.
